Overview

The Providence Off–Street Public Parking Corporation (POSPP) was created by state law in 1950.The purpose of the corporation is to assist in the development of off street parking facilities through site assembly and financing.The corporation has through the years been involved in the funding of a few off street parking facilities and has carried out a number of studies.Over the past year, the city has come to realize that parking is a necessary public infrastructure that we must figure out how to develop in order to stabilize existing development and spur the growth of new jobs and businesses.As a result, the city has been examining parking operations in the city and is looking to revitalize the Corporation.In the coming year, appointments will be made to the board, approaches to funding off street parking structures will be developed and it is hoped that new parking facilities will be developed.

As this new approach is taken, the city will study every aspect of the existing parking infrastructure, both off street and on street, in an effort to develop a coordinated and integrated parking program.
