Sustainable Housing Design Competition - Call for Entries

Mayor David N. Cicilline and the City of Providence Department of Planning and Development are pleased to announce the Sustainable Housing Design Competition.  Having identified sustainability as one of the City's guiding principles, this competition is intended to:

  • Broaden public interest and awareness in green building strategies.
  • Demonstrate that "green" can be affordable.
  • Produce innovative and architecturally diverse home desings that complement the traditional character of Providence neighborhoods/
  • Provide developers of both affordable and market rate housing with clear guidance on how to integrate energy efficiency and green building practices into the design and construction of housing units.

Awards

A $2,500 award will be given to the top design in each of the following categories:

  • One-Family Home - Affordable
  • One-Family Home - Market Rate
  • Two-Family Home - Market Rate
  • Three-Family Home - Affordable

Deadlines

Registration: Registriation is closed as of Friday, March 28, 2008; 4:00 PM

Submission: Thursday May 1, 2008; 4:00 PM

Winning entries will be announced in May 2008.

Contest Updates

April 1, 2008 - All registriation ID numbers have been sent out via email to all registered contestants.  If you registered for the competition, but did not receive and email with your ID numbers included, please contact Keelia Wright .

May 12, 2008 - Entries have been received and are currently being reviewed by DPD staff.  Judges will be reviewing entries in the coming week.  Finalists will be announced at the Mayor's Annual Housing Breakfast on May 20, 2008.
