Community Development Programs:  Application Process

The City of Providence accepts applications annually for funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) programs.

Funding Availability
The funding provided for these programs from HUD continues to decrease.  As such, the application process is extremely competitive.  Successful applications will demonstrate the following in addition to meeting the minimum requirements for eligibility:

  • Substantial leveraging of grant funds from other sources
  • Implementation of multiple priorities identified in the 2005-2010 Consolidated Plan
  • Strong collaboration and partnerships with other agencies to reduce duplication of services
  • High ratio of beneficiaries to funding requested

Funding Priorities
Programs and projects must meet at least one of the priorities identified in the 2005-2010 Consolidated Plan to be considered for funding.

Who Can Apply
Only non-profit corporations are eligible to apply for funding through these programs.

Type of Projects and Activities Eligible for Funding
Listing of activities that are generally eligible for funding.
